Internet and social media play an important role in both our personal and professional lives. Prof Jing WANG and Prof Yanzhen CHEN of the Department of Information Systems, Business Statistics and Operations Management will share their research findings on hiring preference in online labor markets and how online personal branding affects executive employment and compensation negotiation.

Hiring Preferences In Online Labor Markets: Evidence of a Femail Hiring Bias
Online labor marketplaces facilitate the efficient matching of employers and workers across geographical boundaries. This online phenomenon holds important social and economic implications. In this talk, Prof Jing WANG will explore the impact of gender-based stereotypes on hiring outcome in online labor marketplaces and uncover the underlying gender-specific traits that contribute to this bias.

Tweet to the Top? Personal Branding and Executive Employment
The emerging phenomenon of personal branding on social media has important implications for job seekers, employers and social media platforms. In this talk, Prof Yanzhen CHEN will explore how online personal branding affects executive employment and compensation negotiation, with evidence from S&P 500 executives personal branding on Twitter and their career paths.
