FSDC Practitioner Speakers Series - How Big Data and FinTech Changed the World of Finance
The global economy underwent substantial changes, and the rise of FinTech has brought in new financial institutions providing financial services to a large number of customers and investors, as well as changing the ways banks and corporations interact with their clients and each other.
FinTech, the application of information technology in the context of financial services, is emerging at a time when on the one hand technologies such as the Internet, smartphones, and big data analysis enable low-cost mass distribution of services, while on the other hand incumbents are withdrawing from certain customer segments because of regulatory burdens and unfavorable market dynamics.
With its large financial sector incorporation many regional headquarters operations, Hong Kong can act as a landing pad for FinTech start-ups, as a market for FinTech providing business-to-business (B2B) services, and as a launch pad for Mainland FinTech seeking international expansion.
In this session, a panel of distinguished speakers will share views and discuss how Hong Kong would lecture an important role in the future of FinTech from the territory's continues competitiveness as a major international financial center. The forum will provide great insight for university students and young graduates preparing themselves for a career in the financial services sector.

Mr Christopher Lee is a leading figure in the Asian investment industry with more than 26 years of broad ranged financial services experience and a proven track record in building new businesses. He founded JP Asia Partners to offer consulting and advisory services to asset management and FinTech companies. He is also a senior advisor & Director (past CFO) of a private global MedTech company. Mr Lee has worked at Morgan Stanley (FrontPoint Partners), Sun Hung Kai Financial Group, Goldman Sachs and Bankers Trust. |

Dr King-Lun Au is responsible for Value Partners Group's business and corporat affairs. He joined Value Partners in December 2016, bringing decades of asset management industry experience to his role. Currently, Dr Au is an Index Advisory Committee Member of the Shanghai Stock Exchange as well as the China Securities Index Co., Ltd. He also sits on the Advisory Committee of Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission and the Market Development Committee of the Financial Services Development Council. |
